Study Language Scientifically - Part II

Spwctrogram

The study of language will be highlighted in two linguistics activities. First, attendees will grab some candy as they learn about sound formations such as bilabial nasals; then they eat "M&Ms" and practice the related sound. Next, attendees speak their names into a microphone and get a visual display of a spectrogram that measures the formant structures (vowel sounds) of their speech. Spectrogram analysis is a research activity typically conducted in the Audio Lab at Ross Blakley Hall.
